March Hiring Events and Multilingual Workshops to Support Workers Impacted by Tyson Closure

LINCOLN - In response to the recent Tyson Foods closure and the significant impact on workers and families across the region, the Nebraska Department of Labor is hosting two free hiring events and multilingual resume workshops at the Dawson County Fairgrounds in Lexington. These events are designed to connect displaced workers with new employment opportunities and provide practical support during this transition.

Tuesday March 10, Dawson County Fairgrounds

• 12-3 p.m. — Hiring Event (Job Fair)

Thursday, March 26, Dawson County Fairgrounds:

• 9-10 a.m. — Resume Writing Workshop (Spanish/English)

• 10–11 a.m. — Resume Writing Workshop (Somali/English)

• 12–3 p.m. — Hiring Event (Job Fair)

Event Details:

Events will feature employers actively hiring across multiple industries, as well as workshops focusing on resume writing. Multilingual facilitators will be available to ensure all affected workers have access to the tools and guidance they need. Participation is free, and no registration is required.

“These events are about opening doors, restoring stability, and helping people find meaningful employment as quickly as possible,” said Commissioner of Labor Katie Thurber.  “We know this has been an incredibly challenging time for many families. Our priority is to ensure every displaced worker has the support, resources, and opportunities they need to move forward with confidence.

Attendees can expect:
• A welcoming environment designed for recently displaced workers
• Resume assistance in English, Spanish and Somali
• Information about training programs, education pathways, and upskilling opportunities
• Direct access to employers ready to hire

• Agencies and organizations who can assist workers and employers

Transportation Opportunities for Reemployed Workers

NDOL is now offering transportation options for Tyson workers who have become reemployed. More details will be released at a later date.  Interested workers may contact [email protected] or get details at the job fair.

Unemployment Insurance Reminder: Workers must file a certification of eligibility/weekly claim each week in NEworks.nebraska.gov in order for payments to continue.  Instructions in multiple languages are found here.
