Huskers Recognized by NABC

LINCOLN – The Nebraska men’s basketball program was recognized for its efforts in the classroom Wednesday, as the program received an NABC Team Academic Excellence Award.

The award is given to men’s basketball programs that completed the 2025-26 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. It is the third time in the last four years that Nebraska has been honored by the NABC.  The Huskers were one of 10 Big Ten programs honored by the NABC on Wednesday.

In addition, seven Huskers were named to the NABC Honors Court, which honors junior, senior and graduate student men’s basketball players who finished the 2025-26 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.

The group, which is based on academic class status, is headed by Rienk Mast, who earned the award for the fifth time in his career (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026). Sam HoibergHenry Burt and Cale Jacobsen were honored for the third straight year while Connor EssegianBerke Buyuktuncel and Pryce Sandfort were honored for the first time as Huskers in 2025-26. 

The honor caps a strong academic year for the program. NU set a school record with eight Academic All-Americans while Sam Hoiberg was named a first-team CSC Academic All-American. Most recently, Cale Jacobsen was recognized as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar for posting a GPA of 3.70 or better during the 2025-26 season.
