Creighton Baseball Falls 7-4 in Second Game with Sacramento State

Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Baseball saw its series with Sacramento State leveled as the Bluejays fell 7-4 on Saturday, March 28. The loss moved Creighton to 12-12 on the season, while the Hornets moved to 11-17.

The Hornets took the lead with two runs in both the second and the third frames. Sacramento State scored on an RBI single from Michael Perazzo and a bases loaded walk in the second, while Cameron Sewell delivered an RBI single and Nikhil Beasley connected on an RBI grounder in the third.

Creighton answered with three in the third as Chris Baillargeon pounded an RBI single to second. Rocco Gump drew an RBI walk to bring the Bluejays withing two at 4-2. A passed ball brought it to a 4-3 contest, but the Hornets plated a pair in the fifth and another in the sixth.

Perrazo laced a two-run double in the fifth, while Sewell reached on an error that plated the final Sac State tally.

In the final frame, the Bluejays loaded the bases on a single from Baillargeon, a walk to Nick Bowron and Joe Washburn reaching via catcher's interference. Teddy Deters poked an RBI single to left, but a double play closed the game.

Bluejay starter Eli Nissen took the loss (0-2), allowing four runs on five hits in 2.1 innings. Sacramento State reliever Andrew Monson earned the win (1-2) with three innings of scoreless ball.

Creighton and Sacramento State will face off in the rubber game of the series on Sunday, March 29 with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm.
